64 Chapter 20 Not one of His bones shall be broken. And again another Scripture says They shall look on Him whom they pierced. The Burial of Christ 38 After these things Joseph of Arimathea who was a disciple of Jesus but secretly for fear of the Jews asked Pilate that he might remove the body of Jesus. So Pilate gave permission. Then he came and removed the body of Jesus. 39 Now Nicodemus who had come to Jesus the first time at night also came bringing a mixture of about 100 pounds of myrrh and aloes. 40 So they took Jesus body and wrapped it in linen strips with the aromatic spices according to the burial custom of the Jews. 41 Now at the place where He was crucified there was a garden and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been interred. 42 So there they placed Jesus since the tomb was nearby because of the Jewish Preparation Day. Peter and John at the Empty Tomb 2Now on the first day of the week Mary of Magdala came to the tomb early while it was still dark. And she saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb. 2 So she ran and went to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved and told them They have taken away my Lord out of the tomb and we dont know where they have put Him 3 Then Peter and the other dis- ciple went out heading for the tomb. 4 Now the two were running together and the other disciple outran Peter and got to the tomb first. 5 Stooping down he saw the linen wrappings lying there but he did not go in. 6 Then following him came Simon Peter. And he went into the tomb and saw the linen wrappings lying there 7 but the handkerchief which had been on His head was folded up in a separate place by itself not lying with the linen wrappings. 8 So then the other disciple who had reached the tomb first went into the tomb. And he saw and believed. 9 For they did not yet know the Scripture that He had to rise from the dead. 10 So the disciples went home again. 37 20
